Maison de Champagne Vranken-Pommery

Presentation

In the land of the Grandes Dames du Champagne lived a number of famous widows including Veuve Pommery.

Instead of drowning her sorrows or dwelling on grief, in 1858 she chose to work on increasing the sales of those little golden bunches and establish the House's brand image.

She built kilometres of galleries within Gallo-Roman chalk pits, giving them the names of major foreign cities as they were conquered commercially.

To gain entrance to the cellars, you must descend a monumental staircase, 116 steps to be exact, carved right out of the stone, which is almost as famous as the House itself.

Highlight:
Magnificent frescoes carved into the stone and contemporary art exhibitions.
