Monument Américain du Blanc Mont SOMMEPY-TAHURE
Monument Américain du Blanc Mont
A former German observatory, the Blanc-Mont site saw the demise of 6,000 Americans. All the bodies and graves were later assembled in Romagne (Meuse), but a monument was erected by the US government in the 1920s on the battle site.
At the top of the monument you can get a beautiful panorama of the surrounding area, the configuration of the battlefield and remnants of trenches clearly visible, some of which can be seen continuing beyond the site.
Viewpoint indicators help situate the monument in relation to villages and other battlegrounds in the area.
